Frequently asked questions
How is GPA calculated?
Each letter grade is converted to points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0, with +/− adjustments). GPA is the sum of (points × credit hours) divided by the total credit hours. For example, 3 credits of A and 4 credits of B give (12 + 12) ÷ 7 ≈ 3.43.
What if my school uses a weighted or 5.0 scale?
This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. If your school weights honors or AP courses, convert each course to your school's published grade points first — the math (points × credits ÷ credits) works on any scale.
Do empty rows affect my GPA?
No. Rows with no credits or grade are ignored, so you can add more rows than you need and fill in only the courses you have taken.
